Today, personal branding has become more important than ever. Have you ever wanted to have pictures taken for your personal brand or business but the thought of the photoshoot and how to pose stopped you dead in your tracks? Having your photos taken can feel like a stressful endeavor but I’m here to help take away some of the intimidation you might be feeling.
Let’s take a look back at a recent photoshoot with my friend and photographer Wendy from Willow & Wren Photography. We are sharing our go-to poses that work well and are simple!
And while your wardrobe matters, mastering the art of posing can elevate your personal brand styling to a whole new level. I’m breaking down a few poses that work well so you can replicate for your next photoshoot.
Let’s dive in!

1. The Sleeve Touch

This pose works really well because you can simply “play with the sleeve” of the shirt or jacket you are wearing. One tip while doing so, is to look slightly down toward the sleeve with a soft smile while adjusting the sleeve. It works well because it looks natural!
2. Hands In Pockets

This pose is an easy way to do something when you don’t know what to do with your hands! Simply tuck them into your pant pockets and gaze down slightly. Again, this is a natural pose and one that is easy to replicate. The open body language is really good here because it’s inviting vs. being in a closed off stance.
3. One Leg Cross

This pose is a good one because it’s barefoot (my fav) and relaxed. Cross one leg inward on a stool or bench while flexing the foot on the ground upward to create an elongated look. Tip – keep your shoulders “out of your ears” and hands relaxed.
4. The Hair Touch

The hair touch pose is another one that gives you something to do with your hands. Keep the same pose as the “one leg cross” and place one hand up toward your hair. This gives an open body position which is inviting and playful. In this pose do what feels most natural by smiling, laughing or looking off to the side!
On a side note, the satin top I’m wearing in this photo is one of my personal favorites from Grace & Haven. It is the Audrey Satin Button Down and I just LOVE it. It’s one of those tops you reach for over and over because it’s easy, timeless and classic. Dressed up or down this shirt can really take you places!
5. The Collar Grab

This pose photographs surprisingly well! Pop the collar of your jacket or blazer and softly grab both sides with a gentle hold without gripping too tight. Again, the open body position is great because it’s not closed off while still giving a “power look” to the pose.
There you have it! These are my top five poses that are simple and easy to replicate.
Mastering the art of posing takes a little time and practice. Most importantly, remember to stay true to yourself while also being open to experimenting with different poses. Don’t forget your photographer will help guide you through the shoot! Either way, you’ll be well on your way to making a lasting impression with your personal brand styling.
