Memorial Weekend always feels like the unofficial start of summer but getting dressed for it can feel – not so simple. You want to look pulled together but still relaxed. Effortless but not boring. So instead of overthinking it, I built three outfits around one piece: a pair of red linen shorts.
When I think of memorial style, I think of lightweight, breathable and just structured enough to feel chic. These are the kind of shorts that actually make getting dressed easier and ones that are “mom approved.”
Here’s how to style them three ways:
Look 1: Classic Cool (clean, timeless, effortless energy)
Red linen shorts + fitted navy tee (tucked in)

(Outfit Details: Tee, Sweater, Shorts)
This is your no-brainer outfit but done well.
A fitted navy tee instantly balances the volume of a slightly looser short, and the tuck keeps everything looking intentional. It’s simple, yes but the color combo (red + navy) gives it that classic, elevated feel.
When to wear it: morning coffee runs, casual BBQs, lake days that turn into dinner
Look 2: Elevated Ease (a little polished, still relaxed)
Red linen shorts + navy bubble hem sleeveless eyelet top

(Outfit Details: Top – similar, Shorts, Bag)
If you want to feel a little more polished without going full “dressy,” this is the move.
The texture of the eyelet + the shape of a bubble hem adds interest, while still keeping things easy and breathable. It’s the kind of top that does the work for you – no extra styling required.
When to wear it: hosting, dinner with friends, anything where you want to feel a little more put together
Look 3: Off-Duty Chic (casual but styled on purpose)
Red linen shorts + dark chambray button-down (half-tucked)

(Outfit Details: Top, Shorts, Mary-Jane Shoes)
This one leans a little more relaxed but still intentional.
A darker chambray button-up adds contrast and depth and the half-tuck keeps it from feeling too styled. Roll the sleeves, leave a few buttons undone and you’re done.
When to wear it: travel days, errands, casual afternoons
You don’t need a whole new wardrobe for a long weekend to be “on trend” when it comes to memorial style.
Sometimes it’s just about finding one great piece and styling it a few different ways so you feel like yourself in every setting. If you’ve been struggling with what to wear for Memorial Weekend, start here: pick one piece, then build around it.
