What To Wear When You Have Nothing To Wear

August 4, 2024

We’ve all been there. You know that dreaded feeling when you are standing in front of your closet which is full of clothes and feeling like there’s absolutely nothing to wear?! It can be so frustrating, especially when you’re pressed for time or have an important event to attend. But don’t worry – I’ve got some tips and outfit ideas to help you navigate those “nothing to wear” moments.

I’m going to breakdown my top three tips for how to get out of the “I’ve got nothing to wear” funk.

Styling Tip 1: Embrace the Basics

When in doubt, turn to the basics. Classic pieces are timeless for a reason—they’re versatile and easy to style. Here are some must-have basics that can serve as the foundation for countless outfits:

  • White T-shirt: I LOVE a simple white tee because it can be dressed up or down and paired with almost anything.
  • Dark Jeans: A well-fitting pair of dark jeans without a lot of distressing can be both casual and chic.
  • Blazer: A tailored blazer instantly elevates any outfit, making it look polished and put-together. Put over a simple tee shirt.
  • Little Black Dress (LBD): The LBD is a go-to for a reason. It’s perfect for nearly any occasion.
  • Neutral Sweater: A cozy, neutral-colored sweater can be layered over shirts, dresses, or worn on its own.

Styling Tip 2: The Power of Accessories

Outfit Details: Jumpsuit, Clutch

Accessories can transform an otherwise basic outfit into something special. I love how they add personality and flair without requiring a complete wardrobe overhaul. Consider these accessories to elevate your look:

  • Statement Earring: This is one of my favorite ways to add a little something “extra” to any outfit. It instantly elevates the look!
  • Scarves: Versatile and functional, scarves can add color and texture.
  • Belts: Cinch your waist with a stylish belt to create a more defined silhouette. I’m loving skinny neutral belts as of late.
  • Hats: From fedoras to beanies, a hat can change the vibe of your outfit. Big fedora fan over here.
  • Shoes: The right pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. I recommend versatile styles like ankle boots, loafers, or a classic block heel pump.

Styling Tip 3: Monochrome Magic

When you’re really stuck, going monochrome can be a lifesaver. Dressing in one color from head to toe can look incredibly chic and put-together with minimal effort. Plus, it elongates your silhouette and looks sophisticated. Black, white, and neutral tones are always safe bets.

One of the easiest ways to get a monochrome look is by putting on jumpsuit! You’ll have the “one color look” without a lot of effort; which I love. Pair the jumpsuit with a nude or similiar color shoe and you are all set with an instantly chic outfit.

If you are 5’10 or taller and find jumpsuits hard to wear or find, be sure to check out Amalli Talli’s jumpsuits and rompers as they are properly proportioned to fit taller body types while not sacrificing on style!
