In a world obsessed with fast fashion and constant trends, the idea of shopping your own closet might seem like a novel concept. However, it’s a sustainable, budget-friendly, and creative approach to fashion that can give your wardrobe new life without spending a dime. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how to shop your closet like a pro by unlocking its hidden potential, and discovering new ways to tap into your style.
Let’s start by creating three looks using one piece you haven’t worn because you either don’t know how to wear it, or it’s a piece you love but has been sitting in your closet.

One Top – Three Looks
I bought this gorgeous coral top last summer from Evereve – one of my favorite places to shop! And as I was getting ready to pack it for our trip to Puerto Rico, I thought it would be fun to show you how I shop my own closet by coming up with three wears to wear it heading into spring and summer.
For the first look, I’ve paired it with a wide leg linen pant, which is perfect for vacation! I love this look as it’s easy, breezy and comfortable.
The second look, I paired it with my favorite satin skirt by Sanctuary. I love this look for a dressy night out or date night.
Lastly, I’ve paired it with wide leg denim (love this pair!) for a fun everyday look that can easily be dressed up with heels or dressed down with sneakers.
Which look is your favorite? Drop me a comment below, I’d love to hear from you!
And you might be wondering, how can I do this in my own closet?
I’m going to show you how! Follow the steps below and you’ll be on your way to shopping your own closet with ease.
Steps To Shopping Your Closet
Access Your Inventory: And pick one item you love! Before embarking on your closet shopping journey, take stock of what you have. Set aside some time to go through your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Evaluate each item based on its condition, fit, and how often you wear it. This step helps you understand what you have to work with and identify any gaps in your wardrobe.
Organize and Declutter: A cluttered closet can make it difficult to see what you have and make outfit decisions. Take this opportunity to declutter your space. Donate or sell items that no longer serve you or bring you joy. Organize your remaining pieces by category (tops, bottoms, dresses, etc.) to make it easier to find what you need when styling outfits.
Mix and Match: With the one item you selected, experiment with different combinations. Mix and match pieces that you wouldn’t normally pair together. Don’t be afraid to play with colors, patterns, and textures. Layering can also breathe new life into old favorites, so get creative with how you style your pieces.
Experiment with Accessories: After you found a few new pieces to add to the one item you selected, it’s time to look at your accessories. Accessories have the power to elevate any outfit. Additionally, take a closer look at your collection of scarves, jewelry, belts, and bags. These small details can completely transform the look and feel of an ensemble. Try incorporating statement accessories to add personality and flair to your outfits as you shop your closet.
Reimagine and Repurpose: Don’t limit yourself to traditional ways of wearing clothing. Get creative and think outside the box. Can that oversized button-up shirt be worn as a dress? Alternatively, can you layer a slip dress over a turtleneck for a trendy look? Experiment with different styling techniques and consider repurposing items to breathe new life into them.
