Hi friends! Fall family photo season is right around the corner and I wanted to share three wardrobe mistakes you might be making while planning your outfits for your family photos and how to fix it.
Why is this important?
Investing in family photos is just that, an investment! When I work with clients, these are my top tips to ensure you come away with photos you love.
Start Shopping Earlier
This one seems obvious but so many of us put this off due to busy schedules, life and mom-ing! I recommend starting at minimum 4 weeks ahead of the photoshoot date.
Why?
It allows you enough time for exchanges or returns if an item is the wrong size or you need to find something new. With that, in-store shopping does not offer as many options as online shopping. So, being mindful of shipping timelines is super important.
If the shopping part is stressful or not your thing, I’ve got just the thing to help! My NEW Digital Fall Family Photo Style Guides are finally here!
I’ve put together a variety of family outfit looks that will be delivered directly to your inbox.

Start With Mom’s Outfit
This one surprises a lot of my clients. Why? Because as moms, we tend to take care of everyone else before thinking about ourselves.
Starting with your outfit first in ensures two things. First, you will being wearing something YOU love. This is so important because feeling good in what you have on, translates in the photos.
Secondly, you will be able to coordinate everyone’s outfits with more ease because you aren’t trying to find the perfect color or item at the end to go with your families outfits, which can be SO stressful if you can’t find what you are looking for.
Try On The Outfits Ahead Of Time
Again, this one seems very obvious, but it’s so important. With hectic schedules and thinking everyone’s sizes will be fine, can leave you in a panic the day of the photoshoot when you are getting dressed if someone’s outfit doesn’t fit.
I recommend trying on everyone’s outfits around 2-3 weeks ahead of the photoshoot date so you are able to make any changes should the sizing be off for your outfits.
There you have it! Those are my top three tips for family photo outfit planning mistakes to avoid.
If outfit planning is not your thing, or you simply don’t have time, be sure grab one of my NEW Digital Fall Family Photo Style Guides so you and your family are wardrobe ready!
