Summer is the perfect season for all things dresses. Let’s face it – easy, flowy silhouettes make dresses the perfect choice for warm weather.

If you’ve been following along lately, you’ll know I’ve been loving linen this season but I also find myself looking for dresses not only for summer but ones that would make a great family photo option.

I recently scheduled our family photos for July and while I love fall, there is something about summer that has my heart this year.

The Delphinne Dress and Sylvia Dress are two of my favorites for mom this year. They are unique, flowy and easy to wear.

I also recently picked up this adorable kids Henley Crew by Grace & Haven. I love the cream color with the subtle stripe detail.

When you are thinking about selecting a dress for family photos, here are my three tips:

1. Look for dresses that have a simple cut and flowy shape. Movement looks great in photos.
2. Details matter! Look for dresses that have a little something “extra,” whether it be the fabrication, a unique neckline, or the overall shape.
3. Maxi dresses are not the only option. Opting for a high/low style or a short fit and flare option with a flowy silhouette can be just as beautiful, especially if you are petite.

When is comes to colors best suited for outdoor photography sessions, I want to give you a photographer’s point of view. Let me introduce you to my friend, Wendy from Willow & Wren Photography!

Here are her three tips for what to keep in mind when it comes to color outdoors:

1. Creams tend to photograph better than stark whites.
2. One to two patterns and the rest of the family in solids works well.
3. A pop of color can actually work! A bright jewel tone shade looks great in front of greenery, so don’t be afraid to play with a little color.

Keeping in mind these tips, the Cass Dress, Anna Dress, and the Olina Dress by Joyfolie are also great options!
