Hi friends! Glad to have you here on the blog today. It’s February and winter is still going strong here in Minnesota BUT things will start changing soon – warmer weather is coming!
Fingers crossed we will soon be out of the super cold and into more mild temperatures. When things get warmer, it makes outdoor running a lot easier and more enjoyable that’s for sure! I actually prefer winter running because I don’t get so overheated.

My go to brand for all things workout related is Athleta. They just get it right. When I’m trying to find what to wear I’m always pulling their pieces out of my closet – they are the absolute best! Athleta strikes the right balance of style, practicality and comfort which are all things I look for in workout attire. My favorite thing is probably their take on athleisure – I find myself not only wearing their clothing for my workouts but also for my everyday.
I wanted to share my top Athleta picks for winter running. These are three pieces I find essential to keep me warm and feeling my best while battling the cold.
Details: Inlet Jacket, Momentum Top, Rainier Tight
Inlet Jacket
A proper running jaket is essential for a few reasons – it allows for good mobility through your arms, gives core warmth so you don’t get overheated and the design provides options in varying conditions.
I love this jacket because I get movement through my arms and it keeps me warm with the insulated core layer through the front and back. I also appreciate that it comes with a detachable hood, thumbs holes for your hands, and pockets on the interior and exterior.
Momentum Top
A good base layer is another winter running essential. One of my favorites for layering is the Momentum Top. This is a simple crew neck style with a seamless design which makes it very comfortable for medium to high impact workouts.
One feature I enjoy, is the hidden grips on the bottom inside edge of the top, helping it stay in place so it doesn’t ride up!
Rainier Tight
I would argue that tights/leggings are probably one of the most important winter running essentials. Finding a tight that doesn’t fall down or sag and stays in place is crucial. The Rainier Tight is a winner – it stays in place, holds you in, and has a super comfortable plush interior.
I appreciate the reflective details for early morning or evenings runs so cars/people can see you on the road. I find this tight is good for weather around 20-40 degrees. If the weather is colder, I would recommend this tight to make sure your legs stay warm.
